Another Newbie! Welcome Judi!

1. Shop Name(s)
VintageLegacyStudio (my first shop), PocketComfort, Imaginuity

I also have two blogs -- http://vintagelegacystudio.blogspot.com and http://creativedailyliving.blogspot.com where you can learn more about me.

2. First Name
Judi

3. How long have you been a member of the Etsy Community?

Since June 23rd, 2009

4. Married/Single? Spouse's name

Married, Dick

5. Birthday Month/Day... we don't need the year.
June 11

6. What state/country do you live in?
Colorado

7. Do you have any children? Will you tell us their lst name and age?
6 sons – all grown – you won’t remember all their names – sometimes I don’t! My youngest is Nathan who still lives with us and will soon turn 21. We have also taken in Tyler who was in the foster system and ended up on the streets when he turned 18. He is now 19, has a job and got his GED diploma last week, praise the Lord!

8. How long have you been crafting what you sell on Etsy?
I have been crafting since I was 8 years old! I have been dreaming and designing with textiles since I could hold a needle. I took a sewing class in school, and by the end of my 8th grade year, I had made a formal gown, two tailored suits, a wool winter coat and I was designing all of my own wardrobe.

I remember wanting a "Knitting for Barbie" kit as a girl of 8. My parents told me that didn't make sense since I didn't know how to knit and neither did anyone in my family. So, I took toothpicks and string to school and asked my friend to teach me. She did -- and I got my wish!
When my husband started seminary back in the mid-70s, I started sewing professionally – doing mostly custom weddings and some costuming for the theater. I picked back up theater costuming during the 1990s, working for the theater department of Colorado Christian University.
From 1992 through 2006, I had my own one-woman show where I created all the costumes and many of the props for “Visits With a Victorian Lady®.” During those years, I also wrote a syndicated column under my trademarked name that ran in 26 newspapers throughout the USA and Canada. I loved to write about designs I discovered in my collection of over 200 vintage magazines and books – frequently creating my own patterns as adaptations of what I discovered in the public domain.
I started teaching the art of embroidery and crazy quilting in several shops in our locale in the mid 1990s, designing many of the items I then began selling in area shops. I started selling on Ebay in 2007. Things I create to sell come and go. I am not into production. I learned that was a creativity killer for me when I did craft fairs in the 1980s. So, I call myself a change and variety girl – one of the reasons I have 3 shops! That way I never get bored.

9. When you have free time, what do you like to do?
I love to try new recipes and entertain. I also enjoy reading and knitting. I rarely sell knitted items because that is my way to relax!

10. Are you on a ministry team at your church or do you have your own ministry? I am in a small group in our church, but currently not serving on a ministry team. My longing is to be able to work with supporting women’s ministry, which our church does not have – but is not currently wanting to do. So, I am prayerful!

Much of what I do right now in ministry is specifically directed in coaching students (life and leadership) for a very small Christian liberal arts college where I am the Director of Coaching and Assessment Services. I also love to work with women in creativity coaching – empowering others to bring their ideas and dreams to life.

11. How long have you been a Christian?
For 54 years, but always fresh and growing in my relationship!

12. What is your favorite item in your shop right now?
That’s a tough one! I think I am most fascinated with the new Christmas Fantasy Cuff in my Imaginuity shop. I have other Cuffs I am making – and so I will probably have another favorite soon. But, I also love the fiber art cards I make and sell in PocketComfort. Each one is born out of word and pictures the Lord lays on my heart. I liken working on them to painting with thread and needle.

13. What would you like to do that you have not done yet?
I really want to take watercolor painting classes! I want to finish the novel I started and see it published. And I want to visit other parts of the world – via short term missions, if not via vacation trips.

14. If we were having a team party, what would you be bringing?
Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Brownies

15. Do you prefer salty or sweet snacks?
I go back and forth – I like both. I think I actually eat more salty if I’m not careful.

16. What type of pets do you have, if any?
Here’s the menagerie: 14 laying chickens, 2 bantee roosters, 1 duck who thinks he is a chicken, 1 large dog (Great Pyranese/German Shepherd mix), 2 cats and 1 parakeet

17. Which of these three would you prefer to do? Hang glide, bungee jump, or sit by the pool and be waited on hand and foot?
Hang glide!

18. If you were on a rocket to the moon, what is one thing you would want to have?
Motion sickness pills and my Bible

19. Does your vehicle have a name, if so, what is it?
Nope

20. Is there anything other type of items that you would like to add to your current shop?

I wrote a 12 book series of inspirational gifts books that were almost published, but then 9/11 happened – which impacted the publishing world negatively. I lost the book deal, but got to keep my advance and the copyrights to my books. I am working on some ways to bring my writing into my VintageLegacyStudio shop in unique, artful ways. I think I have some fun ideas – I’ll share them as I begin to list them. I also have some ideas for more fiber art jewelry for Imaginuity, including earrings. And, I want to add some other “pockets” including books with pockets in my PocketComfort shop. As I said, I am not into mass production at all – so you will always find variety in my shops on Etsy – and I’m always dreaming up something new. I endeavor to honor my personal mission statement in what I do every day:
“I am an artist for my King, designing space to grow, and empowering myself and others to be creative, connect interdependently, and live with passion our callings for His glory.”

Welcome Jan! We are glad you have joined us!

1. Shop Name(s)
FourHarpDesigns - a little background on that name: The name for Four Harp Designs comes from biblical imagery. In the Bible, the number four is used to symbolize creation (e.g. the four elements, the four directions, four corners of the earth). You may have noticed in the banner on my home page that the number four is inverted like a reflection. This is to symbolize that everything we are (creativity included) is a reflection of part of who God is. My creative side is a reflection of God's creativity. Harps, in the Bible, are an instrument of praise. I hope that my shop, my designs, my work can be used to bring praise to God as well. So from this, I came up with Four Harp Designs!

2. First Name
Jan

3. How long have you been a member of the Etsy Community?
I started shopping on Etsy in early 2008, but didn't start selling until June 2009.

4. Married/Single? Spouse's name
My husband Tim and I have been married for almost 5 years.

5. Birthday Month/Day... we don't need the year.
September 8

6. What state/country do you live in?
California

7. Do you have any children? Will you tell us their lst name and age?
I have two busy little boys! Caleb is 21 months and Asher is 4 months.

8. How long have you been crafting what you sell on Etsy?
about 8 months

9. When you have free time, what do you like to do?
See question #7 ;-) I'm a full-time stay-at-home-mom so I don't really have *free* time. After the boys go to bed, I get to spend some time with my husband or working on my photo cards. Occasionally, I get to have a moms' night out with our playgroup moms. I love going to coffee shops and catching up with other moms who are walking this crazy life with toddlers also.

10. Are you on a ministry team at your church or do you have your own ministry?
What type is it?
I currently serve on the Care Team at my church. We cover a variety of needs including planning and support for memorial services, sending cards to members of our community who need encouragement, doing home or hospital visits, etc. My specific role in the Care Team is to coordinate meals where needed. The majority of our meals are for housebound elderly church members and young families who have just had babies.

11. How long have you been a Christian?
I was raised in a Christian home (I still attend the church I grew up in!). By my junior high years I had really learned how to make my faith my own rather than just my parents faith. Having a teen study Bible that led me through the Bible was a significant factor in my exploring the Bible and my faith.

12. What is your favorite item in your shop right now?
All of my holiday cards! I've had a lot of fun playing with patterns and trying out different things to make some unique cards.

13. What would you like to do that you have not done yet?
Show my husband this beautiful country! I was blessed to have done a lot of traveling growing up, but he has only seen California, Hawaii and Washington. I can't wait to drive across the country and show him this amazing place. I'd also love to go back to Israel and the Middle East and bring him along. :)

14. If we were having a team party, what would you be bringing?
Definitely dessert. And it would definitely include chocolate.

15. Do you prefer salty or sweet snacks?
sweet

16. What type of pets do you have, if any?
We have 2 cats, Zoe & Belle.

17. Which of these three would you prefer to do? Hang glide, bungee jump, or sit by the pool and be waited on hand and foot?
Sitting by the pool and being waited on.

18. If you were on a rocket to the moon, what is one thing you would want to have?
My camera!

19. Does your vehicle have a name, if so, what is it?
No actually! My first car was named Indy and I was so attached to her. I haven't named a car since.

20. Is there anything other type of items that you would like to add to your current shop?
I am constantly thinking of other items to sell. I'm trying to design note cards but so far haven't come up with anything I love. I also make burp rags with ribbon and buttons. I have some that are halfway done. I need to sit down and finish those so I can get them posted.

From Bobbie aka Inspired by Marie

Cory Apple Pancake Casserole
1 cup full-fat milk or half-and-half cream
4 large eggs
3-4 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2/3 cup flour
1/4 cup butter (cut into pieces)
2 large apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced or use 3 smaller apples
1/4-1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
confectioners' sugar (optional)

Directions
Set oven to 425 degrees (preheat oven for 10 minutes).

In a bowl whisk together milk, eggs, white sugar and cinnamon until well blended.

Add in flour and whisk until the batter is very smooth.

Place the butter pieces in a 13 x 9-inch glass baking dish and place the dish in the oven for 5 minutes.

Remove the hot dish from oven and place the apple slices in rows overlapping on top of the melted butter.

Getting a Treasury 101 by KelliRene

Getting a Treasury 101

1) Check the status of both the main treasury and treasury west here:

http://craftopolis.com/index.php?com=tc

(This is a nifty tool that lets you know how much time remains on both

treasuries)

2) Choose your treasury "Title" and "Theme"

3) Prepare your treasury ahead of time using your Poster Sketch tool:

http://www.etsy.com/poster_sketch.php

This is where it is SO useful for members to have their "teamcac" tag in place on their items. So, when you search, add the key word you are looking for and add "teamcac" to your search. All members with that key word and tag will show up.

When you find an item you would like to add to your sketch, highlight and copy (control 'c') the listing number found towards the bottom just above the price. Then click in the item number box on your sketch and
paste (control 'v').

(You can shift your items around simply by clicking and dragging.)

*NOTE: Even though the actual treasury only shows the first 3 rows to the left (twelve items), you are highly encouraged to fill all spaces with workable items. Even the items that are on hold (to the right) are considered by the Etsy staff when choosing which treasury goes on
the front page.

**NOTE: It is now okay to add ONE of your own pieces to the treasury.

Just ONE.

OKAY! So, you now have your title and your treasury all ready to go!

The Clock is getting closer on one of the treasuries opening up. (Say, 10 to 15 minutes) Go to that treasury on Etsy:

Main Treasury:
http://www.etsy.com/treasury.php?ref=fp_nav_treasury

Treasury West:
http://www.etsy.com/treasury_west.php

Once that treasury page opens up:

1) Click on the last number (page) of the treasury.
2) Click "expiration date" a couple times until the lowest (soonest) expiring treasuries are listed on that last page.

Now you can see not only how many treasuries need to expire before it opens up, but you can also count back on the list to see the remaining minutes.

Here's a trick I do:

1) Write your title in the search bar above.
2) Highlight and copy your title (control C)

SO, when the treasury opens up and you are asked for your title, all you have to do is put the cursor in the box, and 'paste' (control v), then hit the submit button.

****HERE'S the important part*****
When the treasury is down to the last few before opening up, DO NOT HIT REFRESH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

~again~

DO NOT HIT REFRESH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's tempting, but you can easily lose your treasury by doing this. Just sit back, try to be calm, and wait for that box to open up.

There IS A DELAY after the last treasury expires. Sometimes that delay can feel like forever. But, even so, do NOT hit refresh. It WILL open up. And when it does, calmly click your cursor in the box and paste and hit the submit button.

And there you go! You now have a new treasury!

Okay, now the fun part! Open up your Poster Sketch in another window. Then, one by one, copy and paste your item numbers into the new treasury's boxes. (I'm not sure if there is a more efficient way to do this or not) Or, if you have not built your poster sketch, you can do your searching and pasting at this time.

Once it's all set up, PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE!

It is good sportsmanship to visit other treasuries and leave positive feedback. It is also encouraged to click on each item in a treasury to increase it's chances of being noticed by the Etsy Staff.

That's about it. Hope I didn't forget anything!
Good luck and Happy Treasury Making!
Kelli.
